Modern Bathroom Transformation in Gaithersburg, Maryland
Project Overview
A family of five living in Gaithersburg, Maryland, were interested in a bathroom remodel for their home. They hoped to rework their primary suite, and design something new for their kids’ bathroom. The existing builder-grade finishes were growing outdated, and didn’t provide enough storage space for their needs.
Design + Layout
For the primary bath, we wanted to create a spacious and bright room, however the space we were working with was almost too big, and might have tended towards the cavernous had we left it open. We elected to build out a dark walk-through dual-person shower in the back of the bathroom, creating a bright white space outside complete with plenty of natural light and exposed woodgrain. For the kids’ bath, we followed a classic layout, however we didn’t want to block in the tub with a wall at the end, and elected for a glass panel instead. This keeps the water from splashing out, and keeps a sense of openness to the rest of the room.
Style + Finishes
For this renovation, we played around with a lot of monochromatic themes. The main shower, with its matte black tile and black plumbing, creates a bold contrast with the bright, airy bathroom. Simple shaker cabinets with minimal black hardware, and black lighting and plumbing creates depth, while the hex tile on the floor adds a touch of geometric interest. In the kids’ bathroom, playful white plumbing fixtures pair with white countertops and cabinets, with teal highlights on the floor tile and walls.
