Country Cottage in Great Falls, Virginia
Project Overview
Located in Great Falls, Virginia, this charming 1970s country cottage was in need of a thoughtful transformation. Our clients envisioned a reimagined space that preserved its original character while seamlessly integrating modern comforts. We tackled this project with a meticulous eye, modernizing the house where needed and addressing outdated stylistic elements that had aged poorly over the decades.
Design + Layout
Our primary focus was to expand and optimize the core living areas. We made significant enhancements by leveraging the existing screened-in porch foundation to introduce a new expanded kitchen, pool house, and primary bedroom suite. This strategic remodeling not only modernized the home but also revitalized its layout. While the front of the house would look familiar to previous occupants, the back is radically changed with the addition of the kitchen, the large bay window in the great room, facade fenestration arrangement, and the pool. Interior reconfigurations ensured a harmonious flow throughout the home.
Style + Finishes
The essence of this renovation lies in its balance between English country charm and contemporary elegance. The foyer and mudroom feature distinctive English wallpaper, setting a refined tone that extends to the bold parlor, designed to evoke a sophisticated pub or café atmosphere. The renovations include a thoughtful reworking of both interior and exterior walls, with an emphasis on optimizing space and modernizing systems. The result is a home that marries traditional English aesthetics with modern conveniences, all while maintaining a tasteful, timeless appeal.
