Condo Remodel – A Kitchen and Pantry Update in Washington, DC

Project Overview

For this busy family in Washington, DC, cooking nearly every meal at home meant their kitchen needed to be both stylish and practical. They also wanted a staircase that would align with the Scandinavian-inspired design elements found throughout the rest of their home. After completing a bathroom remodel for them, we were excited to help transform their kitchen into a modern, functional space tailored to their needs.

Design and Layout

One of the biggest challenges was expanding the cramped pantry, which had been tucked beneath structural stairs. We removed a side wall to create a more spacious layout, adding cabinetry and ensuring enough room for comfortable access. We opted for a peninsula layout over an island to allow for better flow and easy movement in and out of the kitchen.

Style and Finish

The kitchen blends contemporary design with Scandinavian influences. A striking Calacatta Viola marble slab from Marble Systems covers both the countertops and the backsplash along the entire range wall, making a bold statement. Rift-cut white oak cabinets with New Haven-style doors connect the kitchen to the rest of the home’s aesthetic. To keep the design sleek, we crafted cabinetry that gives the illusion of tall units while incorporating retractable doors to conceal a hidden coffee and bar station. The pantry features matching cabinetry and a Caesarstone countertop, creating a seamless and functional design throughout the space.
