How To Design Around a Television
Binge watching a new Netflix series is something we all love to do, but sometimes you don’t want your television distracting from the designed home you worked hard to put together. From hidden cabinets and other stylish disguises, let’s talk about how to keep your living space looking neat and elegant while still enjoying your favorite shows. This discussion is largely inspired by our recent Massachusetts Heights full home remodel.
TIP #1 – GO WITH A SAMSUNG FRAME TV
A Samsung Frame TV is a sleek and stylish solution for integrating a television into your room design without it becoming an eyesore. This TV doubles as a piece of art when not in use, displaying customizable artwork or personal photos. In this Massachusetts Heights remodel, our client used a Samsung TV not only in her family room, but also in her kitchen to display recipes and for entertainment while preparing meals.
TIP #2 – HAVE SEPARATE ROOMS FOR CONVERSATION AND WATCHING TV
Creating distinct areas for different activities can significantly enhance the functionality and design of your home. If you have the space, designate one room for watching television and another for conversation and relaxation. This approach allows you to design each space with its primary function in mind. Our client has a room with a Samsung frame television and a more formal room beside it that doesn’t have any screens. Consider implementing a formal and more casual living room when planning your home renovation or rearranging your current spaces.
TIP #3 – AVOID PUTTING THE TV IN A FOCAL POINT (WHEN POSSIBLE)
Avoid placing your television in a central, focal point of the room. Instead, position it off to the side or in a less prominent spot. Avoiding focal areas helps make sure the television doesn’t overpower the design or draw too much attention. Arrange your furniture to highlight other design elements, such as a fireplace, a piece of art, or a beautiful view, ensuring that the television remains a secondary feature. While a television should typically be avoided above a fireplace, sometimes it is the most practical option. The clients living in this Elevated Bungalow in Del Rey, Alexandria put a television above their fireplace but made it blend into the design by getting a Samsung Frame TV.
TIP #4 – HIDE THE TV IN A CABINET
Hiding your TV in a cabinet is an excellent way to keep it out of sight when not in use. Some may claim TV cabinets are out of style, but they can be a great design element and very practical. Choose a cabinet that complements your room’s decor and can seamlessly integrate with the rest of your furnishings. In this Massachusetts Heights remodel, the client used a large, stylish cabinet in her dining room to provide extra storage and store away any clutter. A similar approach would work well in a living room to hide the television with the benefit of extra storage. Having concealed places to store things is key to keeping your home a beautiful place to be. Also, who doesn’t want more storage space?
We hope these suggestions help you with keeping your home stylish while enjoying your movie nights. Your home is meant to be lived in, and with these tips, it can remain both relaxing and a stylish place to be! Great design is about having a place that works well for your lifestyle while also showcasing the look you love.
Happy renovating,
