Moody Kitchen Remodel in Bloomingdale, Washington, DC

Project Overview
After purchasing a home in DC’s Bloomingdale neighborhood, our clients—a pair of practicing attorneys—reached out for help transforming their kitchen. While the home retained much of its original charm, the kitchen had been hastily flipped before the sale, leaving behind subpar materials and an awkward layout. The goal was to overhaul the space with custom cabinetry, premium appliances, and a layout that better supported both daily cooking and frequent entertaining.
Design and Layout
One of the key layout challenges involved reworking the powder room to make room for a new set of double doors leading to the backyard. This adjustment created a clear line of sight from the kitchen to the rear of the home, boosting natural light and improving overall flow for guests. The original dining room was removed as part of the reconfiguration, but the addition of a custom banquette and built-in bar provided ample seating and storage.
Style and Finish
The final design reflects our clients’ self-described “traditional-eclectic” style. We paired a timeless shaker cabinet from Elmwood, finished in a custom shade inspired by Benjamin Moore’s “Soot,” with soft black leathered soapstone counters. Aged brass hardware adds a vintage touch that complements their collection of mid-century and antique furnishings. The mirrored bar nods to classic bar design while adding depth to the space. A standout feature is the custom range hood, crafted on site, tying the whole room together.
