Neutral + Navy Kitchen Remodel in Arlington, Virginia

Project Overview
A family of three partnered with us to transform their builder-grade kitchen into a chef-inspired space. Their vision included high-end appliances, generous prep areas, and smart storage solutions. The original kitchen was cramped, offered minimal counter space, and featured dark cabinetry and an underused butler’s pantry. Their renovation goals prioritized a spacious statement island, a 6-burner range top with a powerful hood, a built-in breakfast nook with banquette seating, and unique cabinetry paired with modern lighting.
Design and Layout
Our redesign focused on opening up the floor plan to create a larger, eat-in kitchen with multiple prep zones and comfortable walkways around the island. We removed the peninsula and the wall separating the kitchen from the butler’s pantry, extending cabinetry across the back wall and clustering taller elements to the left. This opened up the remaining perimeter with lighter, more accessible storage. A triple set of deep drawers flanks the range top, with hidden shallow drawers inside for utensils, cutlery, and other small essentials. A similar drawer setup was created at the sink, disguising a paneled dishwasher to match the cabinetry. To maintain a clean, cohesive look with the adjacent living room, most major appliances were concealed behind custom cabinetry panels.
Style and Finish
The finished kitchen beautifully captured the client’s vision of a contemporary yet timeless space. Highlights include custom matte blue accent cabinetry with a hand-applied glazed finish, a distinctive double-rail door style, thick Mikado countertops, matte white Fireclay backsplash tile, and custom solid oak shelves above a porcelain farmhouse sink. The result is a stunning, highly functional kitchen blending elegance and everyday practicality for this family.
