Bathroom Renovation in Alexandria, VA
Project Overview
Our clients, who had recently relocated to the area, bought their home with the intent to fully remodel the interior. They had previously taken on a renovation project in another part of the country, and being familiar with the process, they were more interested in buying a home which could be designed to meet their needs, rather than purchasing an already renovated home. They asked us to gut the interior, and address some critical issues: Sagging floors, an old porch falling off the back of the building, and a stuffy old-fashioned layout and finish. The home was nearly 100 years old, and needed a lot of care and attention to bring back to life.
Design + Layout
We remodeled three bathrooms throughout the home. First, the main bath on the second floor, connected to the spacious primary suite, in which we opted for an elegant, elongated design with a large standing shower, double vanity, and linen closet on the far wall. For the secondary bath upstairs, we chose a traditional layout with a tub and shower, and an open vanity with a smooth marble countertop. Finally, the powder room on the first level is nestled in a small hallway. We took advantage of the narrow space with a tiny but practical wall mounted sink. A large ornate mirror further helps to extend the feel of the interior.
Style + Finishes
In the main bathroom, the dual highlights are the geometric accent tile in the shower, and the articulated colorful wood-framed mirrors over the double vanity. Clean white marble floor and wall tile give way to a sturdy dark vanity, with a modern custom frameless linen cabinet supplying more useful storage. The second bathroom is welcoming with soft blue glass tile in the tub/shower, and a small wicker tile pattern on the floor. For the downstairs powder room, we chose a striking wallpaper patterned with tall thin trees. The lines of the wallpaper add an illusion of height to the space, and the gilded pears give a touch of whimsy, in tandem with the lavishly ornate mirror.
