Condo Kitchen + Pantry in Washington, DC
Project Overview
Our clients, a busy family in Washington, DC, cook almost every meal at home and wanted an updated kitchen that better fit their needs. They also requested a new staircase that matched the Scandinavian-inspired aesthetic found throughout the rest of their home. We had previously remodeled their bathroom and were thrilled to help them transform their kitchen into a modern, functional space.
Design + Layout
One of the main challenges was expanding their narrow pantry, which was tucked under structural stairs. To give them a proper pantry, we removed a side wall and created a more spacious layout with cabinetry and enough room for someone to stand comfortably inside. We maintained a peninsula layout rather than an island, ensuring a smooth flow for entering and exiting the kitchen.
Style + Finishes
The kitchen showcases a refined contemporary style with Scandinavian influences. The standout feature is a stunning Calacatta Viola marble slab from Marble Systems, used for both the countertops and backsplash along the entire range wall. Rift-cut white oak cabinets with New Haven-style doors tie the space to the rest of the home. To maintain clean lines, the cabinetry was designed to create the illusion of tall units flanking the kitchen while cleverly incorporating retractable doors for a hidden coffee and bar station. In the pantry, we opted for matching cabinetry and a Caesarstone countertop, ensuring a cohesive and functional design.
