Full Home Remodel in Great Falls, Virginia
Project Overview
Our clients came to us with a clear vision for this remodel. They wanted an open concept design, and were hoping that we could update and open their kitchen and main bath, while touching some other smaller spaces, and adding show-stopping flair throughout. The fireplace in the great room was an obvious candidate for eye-catching rehabilitation, and we were able to design a few elements in the kitchen to stand out, such as the massive islands and wood paneled range enclosure.
Design + Layout
For this home, we kept a consistent visual language throughout. Certain style elements, such as the wood-wrapped columns in the kitchen, were made necessary from structural considerations: The open plan kitchen couldn’t support the full weight of the next floor, so we needed structural pillars in the center. We chose to embrace them as a feature, wrapping them in lightly stained oak, which in turn provided inspiration for the laundry room, where the same marble countertops sit beside oak trim and dark cabinets and panels. The stone-clad wood burning fireplace keeps the dark and light theme moving, and the main bath, with its bold dark stained slat walls and copious natural light, carries on in the same direction.
Style + Finishes
White and gray veined marble, black accents, and wood trim characterize our targeted aesthetic. In the kitchen, polished chrome fixtures add brightness to the look, and the rift-cut oak trim brings a cheery warmth. The fireplace, clad in marble tile with a custom black granite surround and hearth extension brings a solidity to the great room, helping anchor the vaulted ceilings while remaining consistent with the visual theme of the house.
