Home Addition and Renovation in Arlington, Virginia
Project Overview
Traditional brick rambler embodies both mid century modern design and functional family features in this single family home addition and partial renovation. Located in a quiet North Arlington, Virginia neighborhood, just minutes away from Washington, DC, National Landing, Crystal City and McLean, maintaining the integrity of the original home was a priority.
Design and Layout
Our client was well versed in commercial construction with a sophisticated eye for details. Together, our team of architects and skilled carpenters were able to listen and execute using our design build process to maintain the vision our client had for their home: blending old with new through the use of classic, clean and contemporary design while maintaining a warm and inviting living space. The addition to the existing house included a new front facing garage, extended front entrance corridor, spacious foyer, kid friendly mudroom, extra bedroom and a comfortable and quiet master suite.
Style and Finish
The new master bathroom features a vaulted ceiling with a large skylight bringing natural light into the space with a walk in shower and double vanity. A walk through closet with custom cabinetry completes the master suite. The renovated kitchen is practical and tasteful. The heart of the home connects seamlessly to the remodeled living room that features a contemporary Carrara marble slab fireplace flanked by built in custom cabinetry. The master bedroom combines warm grey FSC certified maple flooring with tall ceilings, clean white walls and large windows that bring in an abundance of light. Master bedroom privacy was maintained by placing high angled windows along the front wall that parallel the contemporary lines of the new roof. The foyer ceilings are high with an oversized skylight above the entry and a large globe chandelier that cast interesting shadows throughout the space. Cedar soffits, black windows and white siding compliment the existing white brick exterior, complete with a metal standing seam roof. A focal of the exterior is the frosted glass garage doors that complement the modern design without taking away from the classic aspect of the home. The natural stone entrance pathway uses surface mounted ground-up lighting that is warm and inviting, leading guest to the beautiful front corridor.
