Kitchen Renovation in Arlington, VA
Project Overview
Our clients, a busy family of three, sought to renovate their builder-grade kitchen in Arlington, VA with Four Brothers. They had a vision of creating a chef’s kitchen with high-end appliances and ample prep spaces. The existing kitchen lacked adequate storage and only abbreviated counter runs; the dark cabinetry was undesirable and the butler’s pantry was underutilized. Key requirements for the renovation included a spacious statement island, a 6-burner range top paired with a powerful hood, built-in banquette seating to create a breakfast nook, and unique cabinetry with modern lighting.
Design + Layout
Our remodel aimed to create a larger, unified eat-in kitchen with multiple prep areas and to provide gracious clearances around the island for people to easily maneuver around each other. To achieve this, the existing peninsula and the wall separating the kitchen and the butler’s pantry were removed. The kitchen was extended along the rear wall and the tall elements were strategically clustered on the left allowing the remainder of the perimeter cabinetry to be open and light. For balance, a triple set of deep drawers flanks the range top with hidden shallow drawers tucked inside the upper drawers to maximize storage for smaller accouterments (e.g., cooking utensils, cutlery, wrappings, and spices.) We created the same layout at the sink, however, one of the sets of drawers is the dishwasher with a custom panel to mimic three drawer fronts. Since the kitchen was connected to the living room, we paneled most of the major appliances with custom cabinetry panels as well.
Style + Finishes
We were able to deliver on our client’s wish for a contemporary kitchen with a classically refined and truly bespoke look. Special features included a custom matte blue accent cabinetry with a hand-glazed finish, distinctive double rail door style, chunky countertops from Mikado, matte white Fireclay backsplash tile, and custom solid oak accent shelving above a porcelain farmhouse sink. The project resulted in a gorgeous, ultra-functional space seamlessly combining aesthetics and practicality.
