Kitchen Renovation in Northern Virginia
Project Overview
This Northern Virginia renovation started when the homeowners approached us to find a solution to their kitchen problem. It was small, cramped, and hard to use, lacking storage space and showing its age. We came up with a plan to remodel the kitchen and the first floor living space to better accommodate their needs. While the placement of existing windows presented a challenge in finding adequate storage, we were able to make a clever secret cabinet door, which leads into a butler’s pantry.
Design + Layout
For this kitchen, we worked with an open-concept design. The range and hood arranged on the exterior wall left the sink embedded in the three-seater island. We installed the fridge and more pantry storage to the right, which allowed us to seamlessly blend our hidden butler’s pantry door into the surrounding cabinetry. Finished in the same deep blue, the full-height panel door opens into the pantry, complete with a built-in microwave, rome for more appliances, and plenty more overflow storage space.
Style + Finishes
Our clients opted for a Caesarstone countertop with waterfall edges on both sides of the island. Custom cabinetry in a rich blue color makes up one of the three walls in the kitchen, while lightly stained walnut cabinets sit underneath the counters and island. We took a step beyond a plain white backsplash with the full-height tile backsplash behind the range–not only did we wrap the hood with mitered tile corners, we inserted a strip of gray tiles at the base, blending in with the slate countertop.
