Transitional Home Transformation in Mount Pleasant, Washington, DC
Project Overview
Our clients came to us with a vision for remodeling their home: They wanted more storage space, a larger European style kitchen, and to bring the outside in with a porch in the back. They didn’t want to make any large structural changes, however, so we remodeled the house without taking down major walls or making new doorways or windows on the outside.
Design + Layout
Since our clients wanted to renovate their kitchen and update some finishes around the house without taking on a large project, we made sure to carry out our work carefully. This meant that we elected not to make any significant structural changes, leaving load bearing elements in place. We replaced windows and doors, but kept everything in the same place to avoid having to modify the exterior of the house. Through clever utilization of space, we were able to extend the kitchen within the home, maximizing useful work areas and storage, without making significant edits to the home’s existing structure.
Style + Finishes
Our clients enjoy a refined mid-century look, which we were happy to deliver on. Exposed ceiling beams and classic light fixtures, along with stunning GE Café appliances and a curved hood vent teetering between whimsical and industrial create a unique and timeless, luxury feel. Modern black doors and windows fade into the background, allowing natural light to suffuse and highlight the many natural wood tones present in the space.
